    Ayurveda

1200 years old oriental knowledge getting recognition worldwide

Ayurveda is the world’s oldest form of healthcare, originating more than 5000 years in the past in India. The word Ayurveda itself, literally means the science of life. The word is derived from the Sanskrit words ayur meaning life and veda meaning knowledge or science. Ayurveda medicine is centered on the belief that health relies on a good balance between the mind, body and spirit. Ayurveda is not focused on fighting sickness but rather working towards good health.

Ayurveda originated in India from a thorough understanding of creation. It was recorded in the Veda, which is the world’s oldest existing literature. Ayurveda was recorded in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India. The most helpful and significant texts with the Ayurvedic knowledge from 1200 years ago are still and use today. Historically, this knowledge was passed down orally from teacher to students.

Being the oldest healthcare system known to us, it has influenced health care all over the world. The Chinese translated the Ayurvedic knowledge in 400 AD for their own use. Ayurvedic principles have also impacted Chinese medicine, herbology and Buddhist values. Amazingly, Ayurveda has stayed true to its roots, it follows the same philosophies as it did 5000 years ago but as time has passed little things have changed with the introduction of new knowledge and modern medicine.

Ayurveda is based on the belief that everything is connected. If your mind, body and spirit are aligned with the universe, your health will be good. If this balance is disrupted, it will have consequences on your health. Recently, the western world has also started to understand and act on the belief that the mind can power good health. People who follow Ayurvedic principles believe that everything in the universe is made of five things- fire, water, space, earth and air. These elements combine in each person’s body to create energies called dosha’s (life-force). There are three types, vata dosha (space and air), kapha dosha (water and earth) and pitta dosha (fire and water). Everyone receives a mixture of these dosha’s that is unique to them. Each dosha controls a different part of your body. The balance of your dosha’s is linked to the sicknesses you develop. Generally, one dosha is stronger than the other two, this is again different for every individual.

Ayurveda is very organic and naturalistic. It avoids using any synthetic or harmful substances. The treatment used is based on your dosha (life-force), physical and emotional well-being) and the severity of the illness. The ultimate goal of the treatment is to balance the body, spirit and mind so your health will be good again. This can be done in a variety of different ways, ayurvedic medicine uses a range of healing methods such as yoga, massage therapy, special herbs, detoxification and meditation.

Ayurvedic herbs help to support the body’s healing, these herbs help to rebuild strength. Ayurvedic herbs are organic and non-intrusive meaning that they can be used alongside any other medical treatment and won’t have side effects. Ayurvedic herbs are different to synthetic drugs because the body accepts them as natural support but some synthetic medication forces itself in. The first course of action Ayurvedic physicians take is finding the root of their problems before it elevates into something that needs advanced medical care, this is why the Ayurvedic method is mostly geared towards issues that aren’t severe and life threatening. Ayurveda can help with stress-relief, metabolic and long-lasting diseases. Ayurveda has helped to cure and treat issues like asthma, anxiety, weight-gain and insomnia.

Through the form of Ayurvedic herbs, herbal tea can aid things like stress and sleeplessness while popularizing and raising accessibility to Ayurveda.Herbal tea is a great vehicle to apply the ancient and time-tested principles of Ayurveda.
